Sizes the ID photo maker knows

Each size follows its document's rules for head height, background and, for online forms, file size. Sizes that are customary rather than official are labelled that way in the maker.

Make an ID photo

From selfie to finished photo

  1. Take or add a photo

Use your camera or a photo you already have. The ID photo maker's guided camera waits until your face, shoulders and light are right, then takes the picture by itself.

  2. Choose what it is for

Pick the country and document, or a background and a look. Your face is found, straightened and sized automatically.

  3. Save or print

Download a file for an online application or your profile, or a print sheet with several copies and cut lines.

Your face stays on your device

Finding your face, cutting you out of the background and every check happen inside your browser. The photo is not sent to a server, so no copy of it exists anywhere but on your device.

The first time you use a maker, its AI model files are downloaded from this site and kept by your browser, so it starts faster next time.

selfiedesk is for the two photos of yourself that people need most often: the one an office asks for, and the one your contacts see. Both makers share the same face and hair detection, so one session in front of the camera can give you a passport photo and a profile picture.

ID photo rules are strict and differ from country to country, so the ID photo maker shows the official measurements before you start and says plainly when an office only accepts photos taken by a photographer or a booth. The profile picture maker is the opposite: it is there for trying backgrounds, moods and looks until the picture feels like you.

Questions and answers

Is selfiedesk free?

Yes. Both makers are free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you make.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is processed in your browser on your own phone or computer. Only the program and AI model files come from this site; your picture never travels the other way.

Will an office accept a photo made here?

The ID photo maker cuts the photo to the published measurements and checks pose, expression and light, but the office that receives it decides. Some offices take only photos from approved studios, such as those issuing German passports and ID cards since 1 May 2025; the maker tells you so when you choose those countries or documents.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on phones and computers. On iPhone and iPad the AI features need iOS 16.4 or later.

Which photo gives the best result?

Face a window or another soft light, keep your shoulders square to the camera and leave some space above your head. For ID photos, stand about a metre in front of a plain light wall; for profile pictures, a plain background gives the cleanest cut-out.
